Party at Mark and Brady’s for Mark and Sam’s Birthdays
in Glassel Park, CA
August 28, 2004

Mark and Sam’s birthdays are ten days apart. So Brady decided to throw a party for them that fell on the weekend between. I’d heard quite a bit of Brady’s partying on CDR and that one 7’’ he released on a little Iowa hardcore label, making it clear that the dude really likes fun, but I’d never been to one of his live parties. I was a bit nervous for him, as I wasn’t sure that he could pull the kind of audience a surefire house party requires. I got there early to show my support for the opening acts, Mingling and Getting Buzzed, but they were a bit slow. Mingling had a few fans that’d come to check out the scene. And as you’d expect, none were very much fun–talking about TV shows and telling stories about how much they used to like to party. But Brady’s uncle, Clarence, or “Care Fest” as his wife calls him “because he gets a little huggy when he’s been drinking” soon shamed them off with his comment, “Yeah, I used to party like that, too. Come to think of it, I still do!” Then he slammed the rest of his beer, and said, “Put on some Moody Blues; let’s get down to business,” before fondling some of his nephew’s friends. Sometimes all you need is a creepy uncle on the mic to really get the party started.
